26-851 – Pauline Williams

Pauline Williams is a strong Martu artist and also a ranger for the Kanyirninpa Jukurrpa (KJ) Rangers. Williams sits on the board for KJ.

This painting depicts a conference which Pauline travelled to for KJ in April 2026. The Women Deliver 2026 conference in Narrm (Melbourne) was the first time this conference had been delivered in an Oceanic Pacific region. Its central focus was empowering women, future generations, decolonisation, sovereignty and, particularly, First Nations leadership.

Pauline painted this painting after the conference, feeling inspired, Wanti Kaja (women) being strong together, working together. Pictured here are women sitting around the fire, the act of strong women in KJ coming together.

Martumili Artists work with over three hundred artists from remote Martu Aboriginal communities, including Punmu, Parnngurr, Kunawarritji, Jigalong, Irrungadji (Nullagine), and Warralong, as well as from the Parnpajinya (Newman) gallery and studio spaces. Known for their diverse, energetic, and unmediated painting styles, their works reflect the dramatic geography and scale of their homelands. Each artist, however, brings a unique approach to their craft.
