The Punmu art shed has been a vibrant & dynamic space this past month.
Rawa students have brought wonderful energy with the high school wantis getting stuck into painting box canvases & sharing story. These wantis, as well as some of the nyirti students (upper primary) have shown great enthusiasm for arts worker tasks – giving the art shed walls a freshen up, mixing paints, peeling dried paint tubs and assisting in priming canvas.
Regular artists (Marianne, Damien, Beverley) as well as some who haven’t painted for a while (Norelle Bundabar, Judith Aspro, Ronelle Simpson) have been busily painting at the art shed and at ngurra (home), dropping off many juri paintings to be transported back to Newman studio. Marianne is working towards potential exhibition with Paul Johnstone/Outstation.
Damien has been exploring his style in solo paintings as well as finishing off a stunning piece, entitled Yarnkal, that was originally started by his late father Mr Miller. (See picture: Damien being incredibly generous with his knowledge sharing & showing us on map the location of soak). Damien also jumped on a call with Ruth for Cuppa tea article.
Of course it wouldn’t be the art shed without consistent visits from community jarntus keeping their humans company, and the infamous Barry the budgie with his wanti Tash.
