“Bugai [Whyoulter] and my father, they was all in the bush. She was like another mother for my father. She helped to raise him. They were travelling. That tractor found them now, with Ngamaru [Bidu] mob. They used to work together to survive. Bugai, Ngamaru, Kumpaya.”
This artwork is a depiction of a highly regarded Martu elder, Bugai Whyoulter, by artist Owen John (OJ) Biljabu. Traditionally, Martu artists are not known for portraiture, however OJ has chosen to depict his community; other Martu artists and important figures in his life.
