Jila Kujarra ( Two Snakes)
This is two [dreamtime] snakes travelling around, travelling through desert, through Parnngurr, Punkulyi, Yulpu, Winukurrujunu. Going through the landscapes, travelling around, creating lakes, claypans, forming of rocks, rockholes, waterholes and soaks. The snakes been sleeping there, have a rest and then keep travelling, creating right up to the Punmu area and then down to Illyarra and Rawa Spring.
They kept travelling to Wirnpa, where that old man serpent, Wirnpa, said to the young snake “now this is my area. I’ve got my families here. You got to keep travelling around. You gotta try and find a ngurra [home]”. Wirnpa is the most powerful old snake. He brings the rain.
That young snake kept on going, then he came back and he landed near Punmu, South West of Punmu. He’s still there today. There’s a big spring and grass, long grass, growing around it.
